Geeks, Nerds, and Hybrid Nerds

So in my I’m Back article that I posted yesterday I firmly declared that I am a Nerd.  So what is a Nerd?  There are many meanings for the term Nerd just as there are several meanings for the term Geek.  So what I am going to do today is tell you my belief on what the terms Geek, Nerd, and Hybrid Nerd mean.

Starting with the term Nerd.  When I think of the word Nerd, I think of people who enjoy things such as video games, tabletop games, cosplay, and comics.  They tend to enjoy these things more than your average person or job, but they aren’t often as vocal about it as a Geek.  Nerds tend to do and talk about these things on their own time or maybe with one or two people outside of that activity.  So in my opinion a Nerd is a closet Geek.

Geeks to me are awkward Nerds.  These are the people that you see in little groups learning and talking in languages such as Elvish, Mandalorian, or Klingon.  They take part in a lot of the same activities as Nerds, but they are a lot more open about it, and tend to get more of a negative image for it.

Then you have your Hybrid Nerd.  In my eyes this is the best group to be in.  Your Hybrid Nerds do all the same activities as your regular Nerd and Geek, but they also take part in more mainstream activities.  Take me for example.  I read a lot of books, I play video games, I play tabletop games, and trading card games, but my other favorite activities include working out, paintball, martial arts, and shooting guns.  When I started my gaming community Hybrid Nerdz Gaming we had members that took part in all kind of activities.  We had hunters, golfers, ultimate Frisbee players, and jocks, but at the end of the day we would all get online and take part in Clan Wars in Call of Duty.

Well there is a brief description of what I feel Geek, Nerd, and Hybrid Nerd mean.  So while I said I am a Nerd I am actually a Hybrid Nerd and proud of the fact.  As I said before these are all my opinion and if you look up Nerd and Geek you will find many descriptions for each and people that prefer to be called one over the other.

As always any feedback, likes, and follows are appreciated and I hope you enjoyed the post.
